Every business has a story. Ours began long before cloud computing, smartphones and cyber security were part of daily working life.
Where it all started
In November 1973, a company called Midland Typewriter Services was founded in Tamworth with a simple idea: to help local businesses work more effectively through reliable office equipment and dependable local service. Back then, that meant supplying and maintaining typewriters, the essential piece of office kit at the time.
Growing with the times
As technology moved on, so did we.
When personal computers started appearing in offices during the 1980s, Midland Typewriter Services saw that business technology was changing for good. Rather than standing still, we adapted. What began as typewriter support grew to include computer systems, networking and business software, helping local organisations make the move from mechanical machines to the digital age.
By the 1990s, businesses were relying more on computers, email and connected networks. The company became MT Services Computer Systems Ltd, a name that combined the service values customers already trusted with the technical skills the new technology demanded.
Five decades of change
Over the years we’ve supported customers through some of the biggest shifts in business technology, including:
- The arrival of the IBM PC
- Local and wide-area networking
- Email and internet connectivity
- The Year 2000 challenge
- Mobile computing and smartphones
- Virtualisation and hosted services
- Microsoft 365 and cloud computing
- Modern cyber security and compliance requirements
- Artificial intelligence and automation
Each shift brought its own opportunities and its own challenges. Our job stayed the same throughout. We helped businesses take on new technology with confidence, backed by honest advice and dependable support.
Where we are today
Today, from our head office in Tamworth, we support organisations across the Midlands and beyond with managed IT services, cyber security, cloud solutions, communications and business continuity. The technology has changed almost beyond recognition. Our values haven’t. We still believe in building long-term relationships and being a trusted technology partner to every customer we work with.
The next chapter: MTS Technology
We’re entering a new chapter under a new name: MTS Technology. It’s a name that fits the business we’ve become. But it doesn’t change what got us here. More than fifty years of hard-won expertise and genuine care for our customers remain exactly what we build on.
We went from servicing typewriters to supporting artificial intelligence, but the reason we do it hasn’t changed. We’re still here to help businesses make the most of their technology and their working day.
